CHECK OUT MY FAVORITE FISHING SPOTS IN CORPUS CHRISTI FOR SOME FANTASTIC SOUTH TEXAS FISHING

"Many people come to Corpus for the fantastic fishing."

Of all the areas I have fished at, my favorite fishing spots in Corpus Christi are the bays between Aransas Pass and Port Aransas. These bays are Redfish Bay, South Bay, and the area known as Brown and Root.

There is nothing like waking up at five in the morning, packing the fishing gear, getting the boat ready, and heading out for a morning of fishing. Of course, I am being sarcastic about the waking up at five in the morning part. My grandpa is an early bird. He likes to get the boat in the water early. I am still half asleep.

But once we put the boat in the water, fire it up, and cruise along at about twenty or so knots, the wind blowing in your face tends to wake you up. Watching the sun poke its face over the gulf horizon also helps. It really is a sight to see the sunrise on a clear morning.

We usually use lures when fishing. Very seldom will my grandpa use live bait, although he has in the past. If you go fishing in these bays look for the "slicks." They are a good indication of some fish. More than likely they are Trout slicks.

Seaweed patches also produce these slicks, so sometimes it is hard to distinguish between the two. Redfish, on the other hand, will make "wakes" in the water.

Many parts of these bays have seaweed patches. You will sometimes get your hook caught up, which is me. I know, it happens to the best of us. Although, I never see my grandpa having to get his hook out of a seaweed patch. When he is tugging on his fishing pole he usually has a fish on.

During the summer you will have to shake small pieces of seaweed off your lure. My grandpa told me that the best fishing is in the fall and the winter. You will not come across that seaweed on your lure during the winter fishing months. In any event, you will more than likely real in a big Redfish at these fishing spots in Corpus Christi.

The limit for Redfish each day is three. The fish has to be between 20-28". You can catch up to ten Trout. Trout must be between 15-25". You are allowed to keep one Trout over 25". Your fishing license comes with this tag.

Anything above or below these requirements will land you a fine with the Game Warden. I am sure it is pretty steep.

You MUST have a fishing license. It does not matter whether or not you are fishing from a boat, a pier, or the Jetties. If you have a fishing pole in your hand, you will need a fishing license. You can pick one up for about thirty bucks at a convenience store.

The license will be good for one year. However, every fishing license expires on August 31st. One day and three day fishing licenses are also available.

I always have a great time fishing with my grandpa. We normally catch our Redfish limit in these waters. Just be prepared for very shallow water. Some more fishing spots in Corpus Christi worth considering are the Laguna Madre. This area sports some good fishing holes.
