SAILING IN BEAUTIFUL CORPUS CHRISTI

The Corpus Christi Bay is a prime spot for sailing. The water is usually calm enough to enjoy a smooth sail. If it is extremely windy, which sometimes it is, the bay can get a little rough. In any case, you will enjoy the wind in your hair as you sail around looking at the skyline and the beautiful homes along Ocean Drive. And many are absolutely beautiful.
After you are done sailing, you may get a bite to eat at a couple of restaurants located right at the marina. Or, it is just a short walk to downtown where you will find great restaurants like the Water Street Oyster Bar and the Executive Surf Club. Both restaurants are fantastic.
So, how is the surf in Corpus Christi? The surf is descent for the Texas coast. Probably the best along the entire Texas coast. It is not California by any means, but the swells are good. Surfboard rentals are available if you do not have your own surfboard. Wind and Wave Water Sports offers surfboards, boogie boards, and kayaks for rent. Wind and Wave is located in Flour Bluff.

Check out Momentum Beach Rentals and Port A Surf Company if you are in Port Aransas. These companies offer surfboard rentals. Port A Surf Company charges $25 for a 24 hour period to rent a surfboard. Port A Surf Company also offers surfing lessons at a rate of $40 per hour. The minimum is an hour and a half.
Corpus Christi is a great place to go scuba diving. I got certified in scuba diving when I was about twenty one. I did my final course dive at one of the rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. The rigs offer a vibrant array of marine life. This is one of the Corpus Christi water sports that you should take the time to enjoy. Click here for information on dive shops. Scuba diving lessons and gear are available at these dive shops.
Back in the day, someone got the bright idea of using a board and a kite to cruise around. This is called kitesurfing (or kiteboarding). You will see these guys in the bay, the Laguna Madre, and Padre Island. I have not had the opportunity yet to try kitesurfing. Kitesurfing looks like a blast, especially on a real windy day!

Windsurfing and kayaking are also popular Corpus Christi water sports. Corpus Christi is one of the top destinations in the world when it comes to windsurfing. Corpus is one of the windiest places in the entire nation, so why would it not be a fantastic place to enjoy this fun water sport.
If you are interested in trying any of these water sports, take some lessons first. Several companies offer water sport lessons. Windsurfing lessons are also available. These same companies rent surfboards, boogie boards, kayaks, and you may rent small sailboats at the Corpus Christi Marina.
Water sports in Corpus Christi are certainly a lure for visitors and locals alike. Corpus Christi is like no other place in Texas and the beauty of the area may entice you to come back again. Just be sure to fit in a few Corpus Christi water sports while you are here in the meantime. As always, use caution when you are in or near the water, especially with children. Be mindful of undertows at the beach.
